Am I Special?
For most of us, if we asked our parents this question when we were kids, the answer would have been a resounding “of course you’re special, dear”!
Ask that same question as an adult and you’ll likely get a sarcastic “sure, you’re special” with a chuckle at the end.
I was messaging with a friend tonight and gave him a compliment, to which his response was “thank you, but I’m not special”. I asked him what it meant to him to be special. He couldn’t articulate it but restated that he was “… just not special…”.
I think its safe to say that most of us don’t think we are special, we think we are average and that there isn’t anything in particular that we do, say or the way we are being, that is special.
Society and so many of us equate “special” with popular, wealthy, smart, etc. We look at people on social media that have a lot of followers and think that they are somehow special or better than us. We drive by a neighborhood of large, expensive homes and think that maybe, somehow those people are special.
Our definition of special tends to be an outward definition of the things, people, valuables that we acquire or achievements we make, that then makes us special. The problem with this thinking is that it is highly flawed. I’ll go even further and say that we have looked at being special as part of what defines us, our worth and our value in this life and as humans.
So then, the very statement of not being special, also equates to us feeling like we don’t have great value or worth.
The Oxford Language dictionary defines Special as:
-better, greater, or otherwise different from what is usual-
I disagree! And not just a little. With every part of my being, I disagree!
You Are Special, and here’s why:
Out of millions of sperm, you were created from the ONE that won the race. Had any other sperm won out “you” would be a totally different “you”. The odds of being born is ONE in 400 TRILLION. Let that sink in…
To add to that, there is not one other person who has lived your life, not ONE. No one has lived through the love, heartbreak, trauma, joy, challenges and wins that YOU have. Not one person, even siblings, has experienced their parents in the same way and therefore learned the same lessons or seen life through the same lens as YOU. Not one other person can do your job exactly like you can because our life experiences culminate into who we are each and every day and the choices we make each and every day.
"To choose to incarnate on Earth is an act of profound courage, for it is to willingly step into a realm of duality and challenge, suggesting that those who choose this path are already highly evolved souls with a deep desire to learn and grow." – Unknown
This quote highlights the idea that coming to Earth is not a casual decision, but rather a brave choice made by spirits who are already at a significant level of development, ready to face the complexities of human life to further their spiritual evolution.
YOU, therefore, have the most unique understanding of life, that no one else can have and you show up in the world in a way that only YOU can.
We are much like a recipe…if even one part of that recipe were off or different, it would not be the same. If you were not in this world, the world, too, would be different. You, therefore, ARE SPECIAL!! You are so special that there is not ONE person on this earth that is just like you.
So maybe when you look in the mirror tonight you can look at yourself a little differently, honor your worth and value on this planet just a little differently and love yourself just a little bit more.
For you are so very SPECIAL!
And I LOVE YOU!
